Bertholdsburg Castle | Haus am See Schleusingen

Bertholdsburg Castle

Always worth a visit

Bertholdsburg Castle is a fortress from the early modern period. It is located at the Western edge of the original town, over the confluence of the rivers Erle and Nahe. The name‘s origin is Berthold Vii, the most distinguished member of the Henneberg dynasty.
Today the castle is administered by the Thuringian Foundation for Castles and Gardens. It contains a museum for natural history and one for local history. The tower, which is 38 m high, is accesible as a lookout tower.
